There are plenty of reasons to learn a foreign language, and not all of them are to do with merely being able to show off to friends. The world has become a global community, and with English becoming more and more popular each year, there has never been a better time to learn a second language to make yourself unique amongst the many.
Imagine being able to walk into a bar in Germany and order a full round of drinks in the native language. Now imagine chatting with an attractive member of the opposite sex in his or her native tongue. Speaking a second language gives people the impression of intelligence, and sometimes it can even boost sex appeal. Why is it that French guys seem to do so well with English speaking girls? The accent! the same could be said about South American girls with Anglo guys, though these 2 example are obviously stereotypes.
Obviously, there are other reasons too..

- Be able to watch foreign films without subtitles
- Be able to watch foreign news and read foreign papers
- Believe it or not, it can greatly improve your understanding of English
- I'll say it again - It's just plain sexy!
So, now that you've got some reasons to learn a foreign language, you have to decide on a language and start learning. All it takes is an hour or 2 everyday, an you could be at a conversational level in only a few short months. When deciding on a language, think about which countries you'd like to travel to. For example, if you're big in German cars and beer, pick German. If you have a Paris obsession, pick French.
