Why learn Spanish, you ask? I speak from personal experience when I say -- your life will improve A LOT when you learn Spanish! Here's why.
1. You will make more money. Simply put, I make a lot more money now. At my old job, they went through a firing spree but kept me around because I could speak Spanish with customers. Not only that, but a month later, they promoted me -- again largely because I could communicate with a growing Spanish customer base! Now I make lots of money translating products I create into Spanish. It has almost doubled my customer base!
2. Women will find you more attractive. Ladies -- the same goes the other way around. I have found my love life improving immensely, though, because of my newfound ability with the Spanish language. Not only is it naturally a much "sexier" language than English, but nothing is more impressive than being on a date and being able to communicate with a waiter or waitress in native Spanish.
3. Lots of inexpensive travel opportunities open up for you. If you are from the United States, you can travel to Central and South America surprisingly inexpensively. I spent two months in Panama, literally living in paradise, for a total cost of about $1,000. This is in 2008, and that total cost includes rent, food, and even airfare. My rent in the United States for one month rivals the full cost of living for two months in Central America! You will be able to get by in Central America very comfortably if you know Spanish since they do not speak English as commonly as they do in expensive Europe.
