If you want to learn basic Spanish words, I have some good news for you. First of all, if you're reading this, then you know English. So guess what? You already know lots of Spanish! Let me explain.
Spanish and English are very similar languages. Take a look at the following (randomly selected) words: exactamente, famoso, occasion, posibilidad, atractivo. Chances are you were able to understand those words: exactly, famous, occasion, possibility, attractive. Not all words are that similar to their English counterparts, but the fact remains: so many of the words you want to know are similar to their English counterparts, that often times you could even guess what the word is and it will be understood!
The truth is, you could learn the top 100 or 200 most-used Spanish words and be able to get by in any Spanish-speaking country.
The top 10 most common Spanish words are:
1. El / la (the)
2. de (of)
3. que (that / what)
4. y (and)
5. a (to)
6. en (in)
7. un (a)
8. ser (to be)
9. se (pronoun for him/herself)
10. no (no)
Chances are you probably already knew many of these words as well.
