Learning Spanish - 3 Tips to Get You Learning Spanish Quickly

By M. A. Black

Learning a new language is a great wish for many people. This is why every year millions of people start a course, hoping to finally fulfil their dream of being able to speak in another language. And one of the most popular languages people want to learn is Spanish. The problem, however, with learning any new language is that it can take a while to see any tangible results. This is one of the main reasons why the majority of people stop learning before they have reached the level they would like. In this article I will show you 3 tips which you can use to help you learn Spanish much more quickly.

1. Listen to as much radio and television as you can

This is one of the best ways, but it can also be one of the most difficult. Often, people start to do this, but then find they can't understand anything so they lose interest. Don't! Even if you lose interest, persevere; if need be, just switch the radio on to a Spanish station and have it going in the background as you do other things. Subconsciously, your brain will be absorbing the Spanish, so that, in time, Spanish won't seem so 'fast' to you.

2. Practise as much Spanish as possible

This is one of the most important things you need to do. Yes, you need to learn as much as you can, and as quickly as you can, but all that learning will be of no use if you don't use it in some way. You will end up forgetting most of what you have learnt, meaning you will have to relearn the same things again. The best way to practise is to find someone whom you can speak with. This could be a Spanish speaking friend or a colleague.

3. Learn 5 new words a day

Yes, this doesn't sound like a lot, but if you learn only 5 words a day, within a year, you will have learnt 1,825 words. Obviously, you can learn more, but remember, if you learn too many too soon, your brain will be overloaded -- this will mean that you will fail to remember most of the words months down the line. Therefore, it is better to learn at a more realistic rate.

So, as can be seen, learning Spanish need not take as long as you think. If you just put in a little extra effort, and be sure to do these things -- things which won't actually cost you anything -- then you can start to pick up the language much more quickly than you had previously thought.
