Fastest Way to Learn Spanish - Through Immersion

By David Glades

Let's face it - beating vocab terms into your head isn't everybody's idea of learning a new language, and it isn't always fun. Okay, I'll admit, it's horrible. It is rarely the fastest way to learn Spanish. But there's a fun way.

The secret is complete immersion. That's right, complete immersion in the Spanish language and culture. How can you do this? It's easier than you think! I happen to live in South Texas - Angleton to be exact. I teach Spanish III honors in junior high. Complete immersion is one thing I always tell my students when they ask me about the fastest way to learn Spanish.

What can you do?

  • Watch Spanish TV - Spanish is one of the major alternate languages in the U.S., and Spanish shows and channels are actually quite common. Just flip around and find one. Here's the fun part. Just site back and relax. You're not killing brain cells like usual - it's a great way to learn Spanish fast without even realizing it! Trust me. You'll get bored and want to know what they say. This along with average studying of vocabulary, you'll be on your way to mastering Spanish!
  • Read Spanish Books - This is also an easy way to immerse yourself and learn Spanish fast, albeit not quite as fun as watching TV. Same as TV, but reading! It helps to find some interesting books, meaning something you'll want to read if it was in English.
  • Talk to Native Speakers - This is another great way to go about learning Spanish fast. You'll be having fun with your friends, and you'll be learning Spanish. A native speaker will be able to help you like no book can, plus the human element will help you learn quickly.

Well, that's the immersion method! Gradually, without even realizing it, you'll notice that you'll remember words, and know the grammar! All unconsciously! How's that for easy and fun?

Learning Spanish alone can be tough without solid learning material. Unfortunately, most Spanish courses cost a ton. Rosetta Stone, for example, costs over $500. That's why I recommend Rocket Spanish. You can get part of this course for free! Just check out my blog Learn Spanish Easy for a full review!
