Spanish Language Software - 3 Things to Be VERY Aware of When Choosing One

By Derren George

1. The quality of the software

This is obvious, yet many people make some crucial mistakes when establishing their final opinion about the quality of some program. Here's the catch:

When you visit almost every site tells you their software is the best of the best. Well, that's common sense, right? You can't expect to come to the official site of [insert some big company name here] and read: OUR SOFTWARE IS A PIECE OF GARBAGE. BUY IT NOW.

My advice is: ALWAYS go beyond what the official site says. They will probably tell you the advantages. But, what about the flaws? Searching through blogs and especially forums are the perfect places for additional research and finding the disadvantages of a particular Spanish softwarae

2. Long-term results

Let's say you want to buy Pimsleur (which is a great course to learn Spanish, by the way). You get the first level audios that cost around $350. You find it is a great course and you want to continue using its future versions. Well, guess what. Level II and level III cost the same amount of money. That's over $1000! 1000 dollars invested in a course, that isn't exactly what you were looking for...

You should know this is the trick most language programs use. They sell you level I and if you decide to keep on you should get their more advanced level courses which are most expensive.

3. Review sites

You should be wary of these too. There are lots of biased review sites so it is hard to distinguish the real from the fake. However, there are few things you can do to increase your chances to detect such scams.

The first one is the personal experience factor. See if the author writing the review actually wrote about his/her personal experience with using the product. There are actually few reviews that do this and you should take a through look at those.

Then try to actually CONTACT the author. Ask him/her about why you should buy the software and things like that. The key is to getting a RESPONSE. You'll have a few people answering you. Take a look at their answers. You can easily distinguish the true from the fake. So, find the CONTACT US/ME FORM. For example, this Spanish language software review the site has a contact me form above. Search for that page on EVERY site you read a review on.

Good luck in learning Spanish!
