Learn French Software - Should I Choose Rocket French, Rosetta Stone Or Pimsleur?

By Franck Silvestre

Learning a new language can be daunting, but with the right tools you can be speaking French much more quickly than you may have expected.

Being bilingual can open up many opportunities and provide you with the chance to experience a whole new culture.

If you haven't learned another language before, don't worry, because there are courses available that range from French for beginners through to an advanced level.

Choosing a course that is suitable is where you need to start but how do you know which ones are the best?

Various methods are employed for teaching a new language to someone and one of the ways which has proved highly successful is known as immersion. In this instance a person wishing to learn French would be exposed to the language via audio and visual cues before they are given the opportunity to learn reading comprehension.

This form of instruction follows the way that all children learn their mother tongue, by listening and connecting the words with objects. Therefore using this method to teach a novice means the student listening to a native speaker pronounce the words in a sentence and at the same time being shown visually what the words mean.

There are several companies who provide this kind of language learning course and it gives you much more freedom to learn at your own pace and proves to be much more cost effective than attending a course at night school, or enrolling at a school which teaches French.

Beginners at learning French will not be intimidated by the fun and interactive lessons that can be found through software or online courses.

Rocket French can be downloaded to your computer, burned onto a CD or even saved to your iPod for ease of use.

Rosetta Stone is another software based course that has audio lessons.

Power Glide is an online course.

Pimsleur uses audio and a workbook and Transparent is yet another software course.

Each of these courses is ideal for a beginner wanting to have the flexibility to learn at their own speed and in the comfort of their own home.
