Most of them know only this language. It is the official language or one of the official languages in 29 countries. It is the official language for some countries in Africa and Asia also. About 500 million people can speak French. For 130 million it is the native language. In the European Union many of the countries have a good part of the population who speak the French language.

As stated earlier French is the official language or one of the official languages for many countries around the world. In many countries it is native language too. So French is very important in international business and commerce. It is widely learned and used as an international commercial language.

The French language has one of the richest collections of literary works. The famous writers include Voltaire, Rousseau, Benjamin Constant, Alexander Dumas, Victor Hugo, Guy de Maupassant, Emily Zola, Samuel Beckett, Marcel Proust, Albert Camus, Jean Paul Sartre and a host of others. Their works are still revered and treasured as world classics. They are translated into almost all major languages of the world.

French is a language which is very easy to learn. The advantage of learning French is not only to have easy contact with French speaking people, but also to have access to some of the world's best classical works in literature in its original language. A translated work will never give the same feeling as meant by the author as the original.

It is worth all the time and effort spent on learning the language. You will never regret it.
