It is simply the best way to learn. Forget about the classroom. In this article, I'll share with you 5 different tips for learning Spanish at home.
Spanish TV
This is a great way to learn Spanish. If you're lucky, you may have several Spanish language cable channels. Otherwise, try looking on the internet.
Another good method is to watch Spanish movies on DVD. I recommend watching Spanish language movies with English subtitles first. As your Spanish gets better, you may want to watch them with Spanish subtitles to better your pronunciation.
Music
Listening to Spanish music is a great way to develop your diction and accent. It is easy to find such music on sites like Youtube. I also recommend that you search for the lyrics too to make your life easier.
Newspapers
Start reading international Spanish language newspapers like El Pais or Marca. Not only will you learn a great deal of Spanish this way but you can also get a good taste of the culture.
If you get stuck on any words then a good method is to run the site through Google Translate. Then you can hover your mouse over any text you don't understand and get a pretty good (not perfect) translation.
Spanish Radio
It's a good idea to expose yourself to at least 10 minutes Spanish every day. Many language enthusiasts swear by this technique as it seems to prime your brain to get used to Spanish.
A good way is to simply fire up Spanish language internet radio. You don't need to actively listen to get the benefit - e.g. you can leave it on in the background while you do some household chores. This is a very effective use of your time.
Self Study Audio
I highly recommend checking out Spanish audio lessons to accelerate your learning. Modern audio courses are far more effective than old, traditional classroom based lessons. They're also a heck of a lot cheaper, too.
