This is through web sites that bill themselves as "free Spanish lessons". Surprised? Don't be. These web sites simply give you lists of words and lessons, but they force it on you with no testing methods and no ways to discover the meanings of things for yourself. This method of teaching results in you memorizing a couple words, but not really understanding how or why the language works the way it does. Trust me -- this method simply does not work.
BEST WAY TO LEARN SPANISH ONLINE FREE
This method assumes you have built some kind of base in Spanish. I recommend using a good piece of Spanish language learning software, or Spanish audio learning programs. It will only take a couple weeks to build a base in Spanish this way.
After you have that base built, simply find web sites in Spanish -- news sites, for example -- and read them! Keep a free online translator like BabelFish open in another window so you can translate sentences you don't understand. It will be frustrating at first, but you will be able to understand most of what is being said after just a week or two of translating.
