Whether you are teaching Spanish to yourself or to others, it has been scientifically proven that one very specific method works, and all others fail to provide results.
The worst part is that most people learn through the wrong methods!
Knowing the Spanish language provides many valuable benefits. For children and parents, knowing a second language like Spanish has proven to increase test scores and memory retention. For adults, knowing Spanish opens up hundreds of business and travel opportunities.
Most people decide they want to learn Spanish, and then they give up when the "traditional" teaching methods will not work for them.
But if one teaches Spanish the most scientifically accurate way, then results are almost guaranteed.
How The Brain Best Learns A Language
I'm going to avoid all kinds of science speak in this article because this can be broken down fairly easily.
The brain is wired to best learn new languages through a process called "immersion."
This means that when you surround yourself with the language as much as possible, your brain is designed to adapt and learn the patterns of the language subconsciously.
For example, think of a baby. She is brought into the world with no knowledge of language and receives no language training (duh!).
Within two years, that baby can speak her first language conversationally.
This is because she was immersed in that first language, and her brain was forced to adapt.
This process is exactly the same for adults.
Immersion In The Real World
Never mind thousands of stories of people traveling to foreign countries for months at a time and learning the language just by talking with the people.
Let's talk about formal training institutions, or in other words, school!
In recent years, after immersion studies first came out, a few language immersion programs for kindergardeners were tested out.
These children, instead of receiving formal language lessons, were put into a classroom that spoke both Spanish and English.
The lesson plans were exactly the same as they would have been otherwise. They were just given in two different languages.
At the end of the year, every student was able to speak both English and Spanish.
If you're teaching Spanish either to yourself or to others, use the method of language immersion.
