It's fairly common knowledge that teaching your child Spanish, or any second language, is one of the most important things a parent can do to benefit their child.

Spanish Is Best Taught At A Young Age

Think about when your child was very, very young. Within two years, he or she was fluent in English, or whatever his or her first language was. This was with absolutely no training, and no prior language knowledge.

That's amazing, and it's possible because the human brain is wired best for solving patterns between the ages of 0 and 12. This is why children are so good at picking up on new concepts.

Don't Rely On The Schools To Teach Spanish

The best way to teach your child Spanish is just like how he or she learned their first language: through immersion, surrounding them with the language as much as possible.

The easy way to fail teaching your child a new language is to rely on schools, or on formal language learning lessons. This makes learning a second language feel like a chore.

Simply talk to your child in Spanish! If you don't know Spanish, use this opportunity to teach yourself the basics, and learn along with your child. It will only help the process.

Make sure your baby sitter or nanny speaks Spanish, and speaks only Spanish to your child. Again, the brain is wired to learn the language naturally, so lessons are not necessary.

Once your child is a little more advanced in the language, let him watch Spanish cartoons, and immerse him in other Spanish activities.
