How to learn Spanish - it's a question that many people ask but yet few seem to succeed. This is due to the failures of traditional teaching methods. In this article, I'll share with you 4 tips on how to learn Spanish quickly and easily.
Forget The Classroom
If you've registered for a Spanish class already then I'd advise you to cancel if possible. Sure, you will learn a little Spanish, but you will never truly achieve your full potential.
Traditional lessons teach you the basics such as "my name is" and "I live in" or "I like" etc.
Sure, these phrases might be useful if you think that it is impressive to show your rudimentary language skills or to brag whilst drinking - but they won't help you gain the understanding of the language that you need to hold a confident conversation in the shortest time possible.
A Little Every Day
I'm not talking here about studying. I'm talking about immersion.
Polyglots (famous people who speak many languages) talk about the need to be immersed in the language on a regular basis. This means that you should do something like listen to Spanish radio for 10 minutes every day.
This is easy - there are many, many Spanish language radio stations on the internet.
Spanish Music
Go over to Youtube and find yourself some good Spanish music. Then do a search for the lyrics at the same time. Like an English song, you can learn this song off by heart (choose a song that you really like the melody of) and pick up a great colloquial and authentic accent!
Self Study
Most people think that classroom study is the answer to learning Spanish as quickly as possible. This could not be further from the truth. The quickest and most effective way to learn Spanish (or any language for that matter) in the quickest time possible is to study on your own.
Think about it - a teacher has a fixed time limit. They have to cater to the different learning skills of everyone in the class. And a typical textbook will be full of useless vacation phrases and rote memorization. This is not a fun way to learn a language!
The best self study programs get around these disadvantages. There are a number of excellent audio programs that are slightly different but also have the same principles - no textbooks, no memorization and a progressive method that allows you to get those "eureka" moments and evolve the language yourself - without even "thinking" about it!
