Are you trying to learn a foreign language but you just can't seem to master the verbs? Mastering the verbs and verb tenses in any language is a challenge but there are some things you can do to make the whole process easier and quicker.
1. Realize that the verbs in all languages follow a pattern. Once you figure out what the pattern is you will find mastering the verbs and the various tenses much easier. For many of the more frequently studied languages there are books available which will help you learn to recognize the various patterns.
2. Practice writing out all of the verbs in a given tense, conjugated in all the forms in sentences several times. This helps to solidify the verbs in your mind and you will retain them quicker.
3. Purchase or borrow at the library a mastering verbs book and a verbs CD recording. These are available in all of the major languages. Take the time to work through the exercises and to listen to the audio. Make a habit of listening to the audio for a few minutes each day.
4. Obtain some simple and easy to understand books in the foreign language such as children's books and then go through them and underline all of the verbs in context and take note of how they are used and then make up your own sentences using the same verbs.
5. Practice repeating the various verb conjugations out loud every day.
6. Find some software or a website which offers verb conjugations exercises and complete a few of these every day.
7. Practice perfecting your knowledge of one verb tense before moving on to another one. It is usually best to master the present tense first, followed by the past tense, then the future and so one.
8. Ask a friend or someone who is fluent in your target language to listen to you speak for five minutes and to write down all of your verb errors and then point them out to you. If you are already reasonably proficient in the language you can also record yourself speaking the language and then go back and listen to your recording and make note of the errors yourself.
9. Get a pen-pal who speaks the language and practice writing out messages focusing specifically on the correct usage of the various verb tenses.
10. Know that while you can master the verbs of any given language it does take time and you will need a lot of practice. Furthermore, do not hesitate to practice speaking your language of choice since mistakes in verbs although a problem, will not prohibit the listener from understanding you.
