How to Learn Spanish Verbs

By Frank Cruz

A great way to learn Spanish verbs is to use a memory trick called association. This trick will allow you to memorize Spanish verbs faster than you ever thought possible. In this article we will look at a memorization example and discuss how you can use this method to memorize verbs fast.

To use this method of memorization you must create a link between the verb you want to memorize and something you know in day-to-day life. Let's look at the process:

Choose the verb to memorize

Pick a Spanish verb you want to learn. For our example we will use the verb for "to cut". The Spanish word for "to cut" is cortar.

Choose something to link to

Find an action that sounds similar to the word you want to memorize. Using cortar as our example, a word that sounds similar is "quarter". When we cut something into four equal pieces, we cut it in to quarters. That's our link, right there!

Imagine you cut a tomato into QUARTERS.

Think about the link for a few seconds

Using the link we came up with, just imagine it for 10 seconds and repeat the Spanish verb in your mind as you imagine it. As vividly as possible, imagine yourself cutting a tomato into quarters while repeating the word "cortar" in your mind.

The verb should now be firmly implanted in your mind. Now whenever you think of the Spanish word for "to cut" the image of you cutting a tomato into quarters should spring to mind. Simple as that.
