If You Want to Learn Spanish, Here's How You Can Learn Spanish Fast

By Lynn Halladay

When trying to learn the Spanish language, a good self study program or classroom based instruction is important - but there are some other tips which can help you to learn Spanish at a much faster rate. Keep reading for some hints on mastering Spanish.

Subtitles

Turn on Spanish language subtitles when watching English language movies. You can read along with the subtitles as you watch and learn the meanings of Spanish words as you enjoy some of your favorite films! This is a fun and easy way to pick up many Spanish words.

Kids' Books

You can pick up a lot of the basics of a new language by reading children's books. In fact, you can read more advanced material as well if you are already familiar with the book - try picking up Spanish translations of books you have read- when you know the book, you'll have an easy time learning the Spanish words and phrases.

TV

Watching TV shows in Spanish can help you to learn the language quickly. Telenovelas (similar to soap operas) are great for hearing Spanish spoken clearly and with good diction.

Comic Strips

Spanish language comic strips in newspapers and on the web can help you to learn Spanish, particularly idioms which you wouldn't learn from a textbook. Furthermore, the short format makes them easy to follow (and fun to read).

3x5 Cards

You can make your own flash cards by carrying index cards with you and writing down unfamiliar Spanish words and phrases when you come across them. Look up the meanings later and write them down on the cards - you'll have made a great learning tool.

Remember High School?

Many people already took some Spanish in school or a related language. You can draw upon this basis to help you learn Spanish fluently. If you have some background in French or Italian, you'll have a leg up on grammar, word order and conjugation. However, keep in mind that pronunciation will differ - but this experience will be valuable as you learn the Spanish language.

Talk With Native Speakers

If you happen to live in a city with a large Spanish speaking population, it will be easy to find native speakers to converse with. There is nothing better than practicing with a native speaker to build your language skills. Even if you don't have native speakers in your area to talk with, you can practice with members of a local Spanish club or even students learning the language.

Practice Every Day

There is no substitute for daily practice when learning Spanish. Regular practice will make learning Spanish a quicker and easier task. Vary your study routine to keep things interesting and make learning fun.

Using these tips will make learning Spanish fun and easy. You should use these tips in conjunction with a self study course or classroom instruction which has a track record of success and mixes up teaching techniques to keep you interested. A lot of people give up on learning Spanish because of a dull instructional routine. Choose fun, interactive instruction which can keep you interested and you'll master Spanish in no time.
